(Newswire.net -- 30, January, 2013) Wilmington, DE -- The Fiscal Cliff proposal was agreed upon by the Senate at the last minute according to Lighthouse Financial source, Ken Brackett. Without the agreement, spending cuts and tax increases totalling $600 billion would have instantly gone into effect. It also introduces the ability for everyone to do Roth conversions, which was only available to those who earned lower than $150K per year, according to Brackett.

This Roth conversion opportunity is available to all those still working and have 401ks. Before this, only those retired, were 59 and a half years old or had changed jobs were able to take advantage of this. “This is great news to those of us who believe that tax rates will be much higher in the future,” Ken Brackett explained, “Individuals can do the conversion at lower tax rates today and buy our tax on sale.” In the short term, the government will benefit from this through extra revenue from the tax due after the conversion. In the long term, there will be a loss of revenue as the Roth withdrawals will no longer be taxable income.

Another benefit of the Fiscal Cliff is that there is a tax break for married couples earning less than $450k when filing jointly and $400k for individuals. Originally, just $250k was proposed. The tax rates will remain at 15% and individuals are able to stay on their current brackets for tax. They will be able to gain from the Long Term Capital Gains and Qualified Dividends reduced tax rate.

Estate Tax Exemption was also changed to $5 million per person with the Fiscal Cliff; anything over that will be taxed at the 40% rate. The Alternative Minimum Tax Exemption was also extended permanently.

There is a new hurdle to jump though, according to Brackett. The Debt Ceiling needs to be extended within the next two months. The spending cuts should have been completely resolved during the negotiations for the Fiscal Cliff, which would have allowed the Debt Ceiling to extend in the future at a continuous rate, but this never happened and the House is likely to want to enforce some of the cuts. “The probability of another USA downgrade is very likely”. Brackett stated.

However, there is some optimism in the fact that “there is always a bull market somewhere.” There is more focus on the Growth and Value Strategies and Brackett sees success within those areas.

"We thought it would be a good idea to use such reviews as a measure of a level of trust. But our focus wasn't just the reviews from Google and Yelp. We looked at a much more extensive network of review sites to get a better average," added Budimir giving an example of a related Topix.com discussion

Collecting reviews in this way gives a fighting chance to smaller businesses to be noticed. This is simply because businesses that have serve clients in large groups - such as training and workshop types of businesses, would naturally always end up at the top due to a greater number of reviews generated.

So perhaps it's not such a big surprise that a company like CERC got picked among much larger service providers. By aggregating the data from the web, and taking the average customer experience into account, a better picture of customer satisfaction naturally emerges, according to the company sources.

The review process took place over the first four weeks of January and encompassed over 500 service business nominees from Vancouver's Lower Mainland. It was the first such survey conducted by the company.

(Newswire.net -- January 31, 2013) London, UK -- Research has found the most important surfaces in the workplace that need to be kept disinfected and cleaned regularly in order to prevent the transmission of flu in the office. Regular cleaning of “high-touch” surfaces was found to be one of the key strategies for helping to reduce lost work time and the spread of pathogens in the office space.

This finding is one of five key hygiene strategies uncovered by the US-based Cintas Corporation, which were recently revealed prior to the official “flu season” of the Northern Hemisphere.

The five key hygiene strategies were as follows:

1. Regular cleaning of high-touch surfaces. These include computer keyboards, door handles, desks and telephones. A paper published in the Journal of Medical Virology found that pathogens, including the flu virus, can linger in these surfaces for up to 18 hours. Effective and frequent cleaning with disinfectant products kills the pathogens and reduces the risk of infections being transmitted via contact with these surfaces.

2. Deep cleaning of toilet facilities. Unsurprisingly, these areas harbour a lot of bacteria and viruses and are used frequently by most office workers. Thorough cleaning using industrial grade products and high-pressure cleaners, as is often done by professional cleaning services, is necessary to reduce the build-up of pathogens in every corner of these facilities in the workplace.

3. Regular carpet/mat cleaning. Mats provide the ideal breeding ground for pathogens, especially during the damper days of winter. Moreover, the shoes of staff and of guests to the workplace (e.g. clients) continually bring in fresh bacteria, some of which can be highly virulent. Shoes very often contain minute traces of faecal material, both animal and human, and this is transferred to the office rugs, mats and carpets on a daily basis. Frequent professional cleaning of all carpets and rugs in the office, especially in high-traffic areas, is strongly recommended to maintain a hygienic workplace.

4. Hard surface flooring is subject to the same exposure to pathogens as softer surfaces, with viruses and bacteria able to live in minute cracks and surface roughness in hard floor surfaces. Again, regular cleaning by a professional, preferably using a steam mop, is a key strategy for reducing the risk of workplace sickness. “Many workplaces think that running the old mop over the floor once a fortnight is enough,” said a spokesperson for CarpetFirst, one of London’s most comprehensive cleaning services. “But they forget that the mop itself doesn’t get cleaned in between uses – it just sits there breeding bacteria. The importance of correct hand washing needs to be stressed to staff and to guests to the workplace, and can be done via posters or via memos and face-to-face communication. Workplaces should also provide alcohol-based hand sanitiser and antimicrobial hand washing solution for employees to use.

(Newswire.net  -- January 31, 2013) Tucson, AZ -- Recent reports suggest that online searches for such things as "vacation rental homes" may provide fewer results than searching for "coporate housing".

The survey performed by a leading corporate housing provider, CHB0, shows that certain various legal regulations parts of the country such as New York and Chicago are changing the language of the industry.  Due to legislation that increases restrictions on rentals of less than a month, the term “short term vacation rental” is falling out of favor and the term “corporate rental” is gaining ground.

While the uninformed may think that there is a sudden shortage of short-term furnished rentals available compared to years past and that the industry is suffering, the reality is quite the opposite.

“Business is better than ever,” says Jason Mayer, owner and broker of SunTree Corporate Housing in Tucson, AZ.  “Our property inventory has never been better and at the moment we are fully booked with people looking for both Tucson vacation rentals as well as business/corporate housing needs.”

While Mayer says he is aware of the trend, he says that so far it has not affected his specific market.

“Tucson is a long way from Chicago and New York” he says.  And while he feels it might make sense to begin to transition a bit more towards the “corporate housing” language in the future, he explains that they have marketed to business travelers’ need for corporate housing in Tucson for several years already.

“Tucson gets a lot of snow-bird vacationers, but we also see a lot of business housing needs from the University of Arizona and the US Border Patrol, among others” said Michelle Vermuelle, a Corporate Housing Specialist at SunTree.  “And right now, with the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, professional golf and professional soccer in town, we have all kinds of clients.”

Both Mayer and Vermuele seemed to echo the sentiment from the CHB0 report that said over 90% of property owners were happy with the arrangement of having their furnished properties rented out on a short term basis.  The majority also said they were either break-even or profitable and expected 2013 to be a better year than 2012.

“We definitely see good things in store for people looking for extend stay Tucson housing in 2013 and beyond,” concluded Mayer.  And so far, a month down, he seems to be right.

At the end of the 2013-2014 school year, the TC Williams High School print program will be shut down due to lack of funds needed to update the material and equipment in the printing department.  The print program has been in existence for more than thirty years.  It inspired the creation of brands like Infinity, Hobo, and Players World.   

Rachel Baron and Pat McMahon, owners of Old Town Editions, are leading an effort to raise awareness and the funds needed to save the printing program. Bob Trout, head of the printing program at TC Williams says, "Administrators just do not believe there are jobs in the printing industry to keep the program going". McMahon says, “Vocational programs like this one keep students interested in learning and give them valuable skills needed to enter the workforce.”  McMahon also said, that “Students and teachers at TC Williams are not happy about the closure of the print program.”

Both Baron and McMahon are trying to garner support from local businesses and the community to help save the program.  In addition to providing training opportunities for TC William students, Old Town Editions is in talks with paper vendors and companies like Canon and Epson to get equipment donated.  Their goal is to raise enough money and awareness to make the program solvent for the 2013-2014 school year until long term funding can be established.

Being part of these kinds of events is exciting but being physically prepared is something else altogether. Running a marathon or even a half of a marathon is a desire many have but few achieve.  This is not something you wake up the morning of the even and think you are going to go do it, it actually takes training.
